The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ihiala Branch, Anambra State, has thrown its weight behind the national president of the Association, Olumide Akpata, regarding the amendment of the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) by the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

This is contained in a statement made available signed by it Chairman, Vitalis Ihedigbo and Secretary, Awa Peter Nwaoma KSJI sighted by LEGALDESKNG

The statement reads in part:

“The NBA Ihiala Branch Anambra State (“The Eagle Bar”) at its Emergency General Meeting held on Friday the 18th day of September 2020 at the Ihiala High Court Complex after an extensive deliberation on the issue and thorough review of extant laws, adopted in toto the Statement issued by the NBA President Mr. Olumide Akpata on 13th September 2020 on the subject.”

The Branch described the amendment done by the AGF as “ultra vires”. It called on the NBA NEC to take legal steps to set aside the amendment. It also urged the NEC to sanction any other person involved in the amendment process.

“The Branch called on NBA NEC to take immediate legal steps to set aside the purported amendment done ultra vires and in flagrant disregard to the due process of law in addition to sanctioning all those directly and indirectly involved in the unlawful exercise of the power to amend the RPC.” the statement reads
