The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) is the professional body of practitioners with the mandate to regulate the practice of Mediation, train prospective candidates, and encourage organizations and institutions to adopt Mediation and Conciliation as the primary means for addressing disputes.

The courses available at ICMC are open to professionals from all disciplines and walks of life. This is because Mediation skills are life-skills for building and sustaining relationships and for assisting disputing parties in an assured, confident and professional manner. Individuals with the skills can also deploy same in strengthening their own relationships, helping to build better families and by extension, better societies.

Conflicts are a part of everyday life and it is important that we all equip ourselves with the necessary skills for effective dispute resolution.

The Institute has three levels of membership; Associate Member, Member and Fellow.

The Institute has three cadres: Associate Member, Member and Fellow.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER CADRE

The Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Training is the 40-hour entry course of the Institute. This is held all over the country, and may be organized outside Nigeria for group bookings. On the successful completion of the training, candidates will be inducted into the Institute as Associate Members, and subsequently qualify to use the title “AICMC” (Associate Member, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators), and will have their names listed in the ICMC Directory of Members.

The annual membership dues for Associate Members of the Institute is N6,000 (Six thousand naira) only.

MEMBER CADRE

The Admission to Member Cadre Course of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators is a two (2) day Advanced Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Course, successful completion of which leads to Membership of the Institute.

At the successful completion of the Admission to Member Course, candidates will be inducted into the Institute as Members, qualify to use the designation “MICMC” (Member, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators), and have their names listed in the ICMC Directory of Members.

The persons qualified to participate in the Admission to Member Course include the following:

 Associate Members of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators

 Serving and Retired High Court Judges, Khadis and Judges of Customary Courts of Appeal

 Serving Civil Servants on GL12 (Principal Officer) or above

 Holders of a Master’s Degree, in any field, obtained not less than one (1) year preceding the year of application

 Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree, in any field, obtained not less than five (5) years preceding the year of application

 Legal practitioners with a minimum of five (5) years post call practice experience

The annual membership dues for Members is N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira) only.

FELLOW CADRE

The Admission to Fellow Cadre Course of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators is a three (3) day Advanced Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Course, successful completion of which leads to Fellowship of the Institute.

The Fellowship cadre is the Institute’s highest level of professional recognition.

At the successful completion of the Admission to Fellow Course, candidates will be inducted into the Institute as Fellows, qualify to use the designation “FICMC” (Fellow, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators), and have their names listed in the ICMC Directory of Fellows.

The persons qualified to participate in the Admission to Fellow Course include the following:

 Members of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators who have maintained membership (MICMC) for a minimum of five (5) years

 Serving and Retired High Court Judges, Khadis and Judges of Customary Courts of Appeal

 Executive Directors and Heads of Public and Private Establishments/Enterprises

 Serving Civil Servants on GL15 (Assistant Director) or above Holders of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), in any field

 Holders of a Master’s Degree, in any field, obtained at least 5 years preceding the year of application

 Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree, in any field, obtained at least fifteen years preceding the year of application

 Legal practitioners with a minimum of 15 years post call practice experience

The annual membership dues for Fellows is N20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira) only.

TRAINING OF TRAINERS CERTIFICATION COURSE

The Training of Trainers (ToT) Certification Course is an intensive professional learning process which focuses on enriching participants with the capacity to develop content and conduct trainings on Mediation/ADR Skills.

Successful participants will become Certified Mediation/ADR Trainers, as well as members of the ICMC Training Faculty.

The ToT is open to ICMC members only.
