In commemoration of World Teachers Day, Nigerian singer and songwriter, Teniola Apata popularly known as Teni has gifted her secondary school teacher, Mr Ofudje, a brand new car.

The singer who was warmly welcomed by students and staff of her Alma Mata, Apata Memorial High School in Ondo State said the gesture was to appreciate Mr Ofudje for his “diligence, hardwork and integrity”.

“I just wanted to appreciate your diligence, integrity, and how hard you work and I decided to buy you a car,” the singer said.

Some video clips and pictures from the surprise visit were shared by a staff of the secondary school on Facebook where she revealed that the Maths teacher, Mr Ofudje, was Teni’s favourite teacher when she was in secondary school.

“And Teni surprised one of our teachers today with a Lexus car. Mr Ofudje taught Teni, he was her best teacher back then and she came back to appreciate him. Hard-working, we celebrate you sir. Congratulations Mr Ofudje, well deserved.”

World Teachers Day is an international day held annually on 5 October to celebrate teachers which is established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO recommendation concerning the Status of teachers.
