A team from the World Bank has urged the Lagos State Government to make the procurement plans of its ministries, departments and agencies public since the funds belong to the people.
The team, which comprised a Senior Procurement Specialist with the Abuja office, Mr Adebayo Adeniyi, and a Senior Procurement Specialist at the Washington office, Mr. Hunt La Cascia, spoke during a two-day visit to the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.
A statement on Monday said the team stated that Lagos State was qualified for a grant of $2m under the Disbursement Linked Indicator of State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability.
“The team noted that the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency is doing a good job. Mr Adeniyi urged the state government to utilise the grant to tackle the challenges being experienced by the agency. He also enjoined the government to step up efforts aimed at enhancing the implementation of e-procurement solution in the state,” the statement read in part.
The Commissioner for Finance, Dr Rabiu Onaolapo Olowo, expressed the commitment of the state government to doing the right thing, adding that due process in procurement process was key to achieving this objective.
