Jamila Hamza, 34, was charged in Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting her neighbour.
Hamza, who lives on Daura Road in Kaduna, is facing three counts of assault, deliberate damage, and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo told the court that the defendant committed the crimes on December 4 at her apartment.
Leo said the defendant assaulted her co-tenant, Farida Garba, by beating her to a pulp.
He said the assault was the result of a disagreement between the defendant and the complainant over a pail of water.
He added that during the altercation, the defendant tore the complainant’s clothing, poured water on her, and beat her to a pulp, noting that the offences violated Sections 166, 171, and 337 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
Sections 171 and 337 both mandate a three-year prison sentence for assault and property damage.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He mandated that the surety be gainfully employed and provide proof of a two-year tax payment to the Kaduna State Government, adjourning the hearing until January 15th.
