The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, says it is collaborating with security operatives in the state to unravel the circumstances behind the death of a 100-level student, Favour Okenyi, whose lifeless body was found in a drainage on the university’s campus.

The acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Okwun Omeaku, disclosed this in a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Monday.
Our correspondent had learnt that the 100-level student of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science reportedly went missing after attending a chemistry practical.

Her body was however found near the Eni Njoku male hostel, around the varsity’s stadium junction, on Friday evening.

Multiple videos and photos circulating on social media platforms showed the corpse in what appeared to be a drainage system.
Reacting further, Omeaku, while describing the incident as shocking, condoled with the deceased family and added that the university authority was working with operatives to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

He said, “The university community was shocked on Friday, July 5, by the distressing discovery of a lifeless body found in a drainage near the Akanu Ibiam Stadium, UNN.
“The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.
“The management is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and to prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future.”

He concluded that an investigation that would aid the arrest of the perpetrators was ongoing.
“The circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation that will aid investigations and fish out perpetrator/s of the evil act,” Omeaku concluded.

When contacted on Sunday for a reaction, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, asked our correspondent to send a text message which was sent to his line.

He however did not respond to repeated calls and messages sent to him on Sunday and Monday.
