Osun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige

The three Chinese miners abducted on Monday in Ijoka village near Itagunmodi, Osun State, have been regained their freedom.

The three men regained their freedom on Wednesday after they were reportedly rescued by some members of a vigilante group.

A police orderly attached to the victims was killed by the abductors, while a fourth Chinese, who attempted to escape, was shot and wounded.

However, sources in Iperindo told our correspondent that the three Chinese were rescued in a village near the town on Wednesday.

The vigilantes, who found them, it was learnt, took the victims to the Divisional Police Officer in Iperindo, from where they were moved to Osogbo.

A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent, “The men were taken to the state command headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force and were later reunited with their relations.

“The police are still on the trail of the perpetrators of the crime. Local security men are also involved in the operation.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige, confirmed their release in a chat with our correspondent.

Asked if ransom was paid to secure the release of the Chinese, the police boss said, “They have been rescued. No ransom was paid and no casualty was recorded. The operation went well.”
