Former New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused the Nigeria Police Force of eroding its credibility by interfering in the affairs of Kano State.

Kwankwaso stated that the police are setting a dangerous precedent in Kano by issuing a false terror alert.

He was reacting to the ‘terror alert’ issued by the Kano State Police Command on the eve of the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order’s annual Maulud celebration at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Kwankwaso lamented that the alert caused unnecessary fear among Kano residents and attendees from other parts of Nigeria and abroad.

In an X post, the former Kano State governor also urged the Federal Government to refrain from meddling in the affairs of Kano State.

He wrote: “Issuing a threat alert of this magnitude, which later turns out to be false, sets a dangerous precedent. I am afraid it will lead to complacency in the event of a genuine threat in the future.

“Due to the international nature of the event, the conduct of the police leadership in Kano also leaves a bad impression of the Nigeria Police Force globally.

“The Federal Government must avoid dragging itself into such matters and focus on ensuring professionalism within the police force.”
