Reports indicate that the 16-year-old, Aisha Suleiman, allegedly prepared a pepper soup meal laced with poison, intending to harm her ex-boyfriend in Edo State, Nigeria. However, the meal was also consumed by his current girlfriend and friends, resulting in five fatalities.
The incident occurred on October 26, 2024, in the Afashio community in Uzairue. The victims—19-year-old Emmanuel Elogie, his girlfriend Ada Samuel, and friends Nurudeen, Samuel Ayegwalo, and Jeffrey Ayegwalo—were found unresponsive in an apartment. Emmanuel’s father, Mr. Elogie Ezekiel, discovered the bodies early that morning.
Police spokesperson SP Moses Joel Iyamu, who confirmed details about the incident, stated, “He met the lifeless body of his son’s friend named Nurudeen at the corridor, then found Emmanuel and Ada on the bed, with the other two victims in the sitting room.”
Authorities reported that local residents, upon learning of the incident, attempted to carry out mob justice. “Operatives of Jattu Division received information that the suspect was about to be lynched. They quickly mobilized to the scene, rescuing her and transferring the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation,” shared SP Iyamu.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru Peter Ozigi, assured the public of a complete investigation and emphasized the importance of lawful justice. “No stone will be left unturned to ensure that the cause of death of these young people is established, and justice will be served,” he stated. Meanwhile, unverified footage related to the incident has been circulating on social media.
