A woman has been arrested by the operatives of the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly operating a sex trafficking ring from Nigeria to the neighbouring Ghana.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbemi Adesina, paraded the suspect identified as Peace John at the command headquarters in Jos on Monday.
Adesina told journalists during the parade that the 20-year female suspect who specialised in child trafficking was arrested at the Bukuru Low Cost area in Jos South LGA, after a tip-off.

The Commissioner said, “On June 14, 2024, at about 3 pm, the Plateau State Police Command arrested one Peace John, female, 20 years old of age, behind the Redeemed Church Bukuru Low Cost in connection to a case of human trafficking.

The victims whose rescue became viral on social media were said to have been rescued from the Republic of Ghana and repatriated to Nigeria. They revealed upon interrogation that it was the said Peace John who specialised in trafficking persons to Ghana for sexual exploitation that lured them to Ghana.

The Commissioner of Police also paraded 59 other suspects for various offences including one Mohammed Baya, male, of Pyantil Village, Pankshin Local Government Area, who conspired with three others and broke into the house of one Nasara Isah, robbed him of a cash sum of N1m before killing the victim.
He said all the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be charged to the court after investigations were concluded.

“Apart from the series of stakeholders meetings I have held with stakeholders from the troubled Local Government Areas in the state, as a remedy for peaceful co-existence in the state, I have emplaced intensive patrol, raiding of criminal hideouts and visibility policing which has become the hallmark of my policing strategy employed in recording these recent achievements”, the commissioner added.
