Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered for the immediate and complete suspension of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, in the country.
BBC reports that the Supreme Court stated that the suspension would remain in effect until X complies with all pending court orders and settles existing fines.
Justice Moraes, who has been at the center of the dispute, had earlier given X a 24-hour ultimatum to appoint a new legal representative in Brazil or face suspension.
The deadline for compliance was set for Thursday evening.
However, the platform is expected to become unavailable to users across Brazil within the next 24 hours as the court’s order takes effect.
