The State House management has disclosed that its overhead expenditure has reached N22.62 billion, distributed across seven cost centers, including the State House Headquarters and various operations for the President and Vice President.
During an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Special Duties to the data center at the Presidential Villa, Permanent Secretary Olufunso Adebiyi provided an update on the 2023/2024 budget implementation. He reported a remarkable 99 percent implementation of overhead expenditure, while capital project implementation stood at 43 percent for 2024.
As of August 31, 2024, Adebiyi stated that N15.08 billion had been released from the appropriated amount, with N14.9 billion already expended this fiscal year, leaving an outstanding balance of N14.5 billion. For capital expenditures, N51.3 billion was allocated for 2024, with N22 billion spent so far.
Adebiyi praised the Committee for approving an increased budget allocation for the State House in 2024, emphasizing its impact on staff welfare and crucial capital projects, including the renovation of Aguda House, the President’s residence, and improvements in computerization and digitalization efforts.
He also reviewed the budget performances for 2023, highlighting that N1.65 billion was allocated for personnel costs, all of which was spent, and N8.29 billion for overhead, with a 99.82 percent implementation rate. For capital expenditure in 2023, N11.2 billion was approved, with N10.9 billion spent.
Adebiyi announced plans to achieve full digitization of State House operations by November 2024, which is expected to enhance efficiency and security in administrative functions.
The visit, led by Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties Kabir Tukura, aimed to assess the budgetary performance of the State House.
Tukura commended the digital transformation efforts and the effective use of budgetary allocations, stating, “So far, so good. The releases have been made and utilized by almost 98 percent, which is quite commendable.”
He expressed confidence in the State House’s commitment to budgetary discipline and modernization of government services.
