Managing Partner of SPA Ajibade & Co. Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, FCIArb has called for reform of the judicial process in the country to ensure speedy dispensation of Justice in order to boost the confidence of litigants who are frustrated by the delays in having their matters resolved in the courts.

Dr. Ajibade who was the special guest at the lecture organized by the Isiokpo branch of the Nigerian Bar Association emphasized that due to the slow pace of resolving dispute through the judicial process, many litigants are fast considering other means of settling their disputes and this will ultimately lead to a significant loss of business for legal practitioners.

“It’s no secret that justice grinds slowly in our country due to the myriads of problems facing our judicial system and there is a need for all stakeholders in the to form a common front to deal with these problems which are threatening to put us out of business as litigants are fast losing confidence in the system as they seek other means of resolving their disputes.

“ Posting of Judges to handle electoral disputes across the country is one factor that contributes to this delay as most of the Judges are away from their Courts for close to six months and as a results matters pending before them suffer from series of adjournments and the clients would not understand the reasons for the delay in concluding their matters.

Dr. Ajibade commended the Chairman and members of the Isiokpo branch for a well-organized law week and urged them to imbibe the lessons learnt from the event in advancing their practice.
