The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a social media user, Aliyu Musa, over alleged use of abusive language against public office holders in the state.

The Command said in a statement Monday that it came across “a very disturbing video of a 33-year-old Aliyu Musa, A-K-A Imam Mahdi, a resident of Kwacham Ward, Mubi South Local Government Area, with a Tiktok handle @faty5076 circulating on social media”.

It said the content of the TikTok post in which the young man claims that some Adamawa stakeholders are unjust, amounts to abusing them in an immoral manner.

A statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said that even as the man has no evidence to prove his assertions, the assertions will not only tarnish the image of the personalities indicated but may also lead to breakdown of law and order.

The statement said this is due to the sensitive responsibilities that the public office holders have in Adamawa and around the country.

“The Command unequivocally condemns such act in the strongest terms and vows to deal with anyone who is bent on violating the laws of the land,” the Police said.

The Police, which did not disclose the names of the persons mentioned by the TikToker, said preliminary investigations so far reveals that the abusive posts were made with the intention to demean the reputation of the prominent personalities and leaders in the state.

“This violent manner will lead to breakdown of law and order. It is imperative to employ proactive measures to guide and counsel social media handlers to be wary of their posts to avoid violating the laws that define and regulate social media uses,” the Police asserted.
