No fewer than seven persons were feared dead in two separate crashes in Ogun State on Wednesday.

In the first crash, five persons were crushed to death by a truck along the Epe-Ijebu-Ode Expressway in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps confirmed the crash in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The statement was signed by the spokesperson for the Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi.

“The road traffic accident was caused by excessive speed on the part of the empty Mack truck coming from Epe which crossed the median to hit the truck moving inbound Epe, while at the same time, crushed a commercial motorcycle moving inbound Epe, too,” the statement read in part.

In the second crash, two persons were said to have died when a commercial bus driving against traffic collided with a truck at the Kara Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

PUNCH Metro gathered that other passengers on the bus sustained injuries.

The driver of the fully loaded 18-seater bus with number plate AKD-11-XA was said to have avoided the traffic at Berger inward Ibadan when he diverted to the one-way route.

An eyewitness, Tunde Komolafe, said the incident happened around 7pm.

One of our correspondents saw two corpses at the scene of the crash.

One of the passengers who escaped with a minor injury was also sighted while she was sitting in a corner. An attempt to speak to her was futile as she was still in shock due to the incident.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen controlling the traffic while they also evacuated the corpse.
