The Senate on Wednesday urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to urgently call off their ongoing strike in the spirit of patriotism and national interest.

The Senate also mandated its leadership, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to urgently meet with representatives of the unions to seek amicable resolution of their demands.

The resolution of the Red Chamber followed its consideration of a motion moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele at plenary, titled, ‘The need for Labour to reconsider their industrial action in the interest of patriotism and for the rule of law and order’.

The development comes as DAILY POST reports that NLC and TUC leaders are meeting with the Federal Government over the ongoing strike.

Recall that on Tuesday, the labour unions embarked on a nationwide indefinite strike over the attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo State.
