CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on reparations and repatriation, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, PDP, Delta North has hailed Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge, on his emergence as the Asagba of Asaba, Delta State.
Senator Nwoko while congratulating Epiphany Azinge, SAN on his recent ascension as the 14th Asagba of Asaba, urged him to use his wealth of experience for the development of Asaba under his reign.
He expressed optimism that Azinge’s selection for the throne would bring good tidings to Asaba which doubles as a kingdom and capital of the Delta State, just as he acknowledged the strategic and historical importance of Asaba, noting its role as the regional capital of the Anioma area and its status as a vibrant, cosmopolitan city.
In a congratulatory message made available to Journalists by his media directorate, Senator Nwoko praised Professor Azinge’s exceptional career and the respect he commands among the Anioma people, saying, “Your appointment as the new Asagba is a proof to your remarkable achievements and the high regard in which you are held.”
The Asagba-in-Council, on Sunday, August 18, officially announced Professor Azinge’s selection to the revered role, following a thorough process in line with the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979. As a renowned professor of law and former Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Azinge’s appointment marks a defining moment in Asaba’s rich history.
Senator Nwoko who further expressed confidence that His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge’s leadership would continue to uphold and enhance the traditions and values of Asaba, emphasized the importance of this new chapter for the city and the Anioma people, highlighting the positive impact that Asagba Azinge’s guidance is expected to bring.
He said, “Your ascension to the throne transcends personal achievement; it represents a historic, cultural, and deeply rooted milestone that embodies the essence of Asaba’s heritage and traditions. Your leadership comes at a crucial time, and I am confident that you will continue to uphold and enhance the traditions and values that have made Asaba a beacon of cultural and administrative excellence.”
Senator Nwoko has also extended warm regards and best wishes for a successful and prosperous reign under His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge’s leadership.
