A Member of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, Chief Chibuzo Nduwueze Ziggy Azike is reported to have died.

Reports in some quarters have it that Chief Ziggy died of COVID-19 while others said he died of prostate cancer.

A source close to the deceased told newsmen that Chief Ziggy died last night of prostate cancer.

Chief Chibuzo Nduwueze Ziggy Azike was born on the 19th day of September, 1959 in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, to Chief & Mrs. Ebenezer Uchegbu Azike of Okohia Osu-Owerre in Isiala Mbano L.G.A. of Imo State.

He attended Salvation Army School, Surulere Lagos where he sat for and passed the First School Leaving Certificate with Distinction in 1971. Thereafter, he proceeded to St. Gregory’s College, Lagos for his secondary education, from where he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1976.He was a pioneer student of the Federal School of Arts and Science, Aba, (1976/78), where he obtained 3 A/Level papers.

He proceeded to University of Nigeria to study law in 1978 and graduated in 1982 with a degree in Law (LL.B [Hons], and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and was called to Bar in 1983.

Chief Ziggy had his National Youth Service Programme (NYSC) with Union Bank of Nigeria Plc; he was assigned to the Legal Department. At the completion of his NYSC programme in 1984, he was automatically offered employment by the bank for his outstanding performance during his NYSC programme.

In 1989, Chief Ziggy established his Law Firm, Chibuzo N. Ziggy Azike & Co.

Chief Ziggy has served as a member of the National Executive Committee of the NBA since 1987.

Chief Azike is a Notary Public and a Life Bencher of the Body of Benchers in the Nigerian Legal Profession.

Chief Ziggy Azike is a member of Institute of Directors, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), International Bar Association (IBA), Capital Market Solicitors Association, Maritime Lawyers Association, Life Member Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind, Life Patron Boys Brigade Imo State, Patron Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (Catholic Diocese of Okigwe), Island Club, Ikoyi Club (1938) and the Metropolitan Club.

Chief Azike was a member of the Governing Council of Imo State University 1999 – 2003 and Member of Board Imo State Council of Arts and Culture 1995 – 1997. He was also a Member of the Governing Council of Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (NISER) at Ibadan, He is a Council Member of the Nigerian Britain Association.

Chief Azike was appointed a member of the Presidential Visitation Panel to Federal College of Education Okene in 1999. The President also appointed him as a member of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Fire Incident at the

Muritala Mohammed Airport (Local Terminal) Ikeja, Lagos. He was also appointed by the President as a member of the Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE) Steering Committee on Pension Reforms which assignment yielded the National Pension Commission. He represented Imo state as a delegate to the National Political Reform Conference Abuja in 2005 where he was the Secretary to the South-East caucus and Secretary to the Igbo Elders Forum. Suffice it to say that he acquits himself creditably in each of these assignments. Chief Azike’s exceptional devotion in the service of humanity and God earned him recognition and admission into the Order of Knighthood of Saint Christopher (KSC) in 1995. In 1996, he was also honoured by his people with the traditional chieftaincy title of “Omezimba – Osu-Owerre” in Isiala-Mbano L.G.A., Imo State.

In 2007 in consolidation with other law firms Legacy firm Chibuzo N. Ziggy Azike & Co. translated to Adroit Lex & Co. Attorneys At law and Omezimba Ziggy Azike became the Principal Counsel of the Lagos Practice. Adroit Lex & Co. have other offices in Abuja. Chief Ziggy Azike is the first Lawyer from Imo State to be registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a Capital Market Advisor.

In October 2010, Chief Chibuzo Nduwueze Ziggy Azike Ksc became a voluntary blood donor at LUTH.

He was married to Chinyere Nneji Azike and blessed with Children.
