Two suspected Lagos-based robbers have been arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command after they unleashed terror on residents of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The robbery suspects were said to have been terrorising the people of Ijebu-Ode and its environs in recent times.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi explained that the suspects, Muyiwa Adebola and Lukman Ogunmuyiwa, were arrested following a distress call received at Igbeba Divisional Headquarters Ijebu Ode on March 26, 2023.

He added that nemesis caught up with them when a six-man gang invaded a new site in Imoru-Ijebu and held people of the area hostage.

He said, “The robbers dispossessed residents of their belongings including laptops, 32 different phones and a GLK Mercedes Benz car with number plate KRD 570 HM at gunpoint.

“One Ayoola Taiwo was also shot and wounded in his right knee by the robbers.

“Upon the report, the DPO Igbeba Division, CSP Musiliu Doga, led his men to the scene but the robbers fled on sighting the policemen.

“They were chased and one of them, Muyiwa Adebola, was arrested at the Olisa area of Ijebu-Ode and one of the robbed phones was recovered from him.”

The PPRO added that it was the suspect that led operatives to the Mushin area of Lagos where the second suspect was arrested.

“On interrogation, Muyiwa Adebola informed the police that the gang members were based in Lagos State, and he subsequently led detectives to the Mushin area of Lagos where the second suspect, Lukman Ogunmuyiwa, who also confessed his participation in the robbery, was apprehended.

“So far, the following items – three HP laptops and three phones, belonging to the victims have been recovered from them,” he said.

The PPRO, however, said the suspects have been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department on the order of the outgoing Commissioner of Police now Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, for further investigation.
