PUNISHMENT FOR ASSAULTING AN OFFICER OF FRSC.
It is not strange to find road users assaulting, attempting to assault or threatening to assault officers/members of the Federal Road Service Corps (FRSC) or other law enforcement agents. This is part of the high risk faced by FRSC, that prompted federal law makers to authorize members of the FRSC to bear arms like members of the Nigerian Police, since 2007.
Assaulting a member of the FRSC in the performance of his duties is an offence and it is punishable with fine of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000.00) and or imprisonment for 6 months. There is no justification to take laws into one’s hand. Courts are always available to deal with erring public officers!
My authorities are sections 19, 26(3), 29 and 31 of the Federal Road Safety Commission Act, 2007.
