PROCEDURE FOR TAKING OATH BY CHRISTIANS, MUSLIMS, JEWS ETC
In Nigeria, whenever oaths are to be taken, the person taking the Oath shall:
(A) if a Muslim, place both hands on a copy of the Koran,
(B) if a Christian, hold in his right hand a copy of the Holy Bible or of the New Testament,
(C) if a Jew, hold in his uplifted hand a copy of the Old Testament,
and shall say or repeat after the person administering the oath the words prescribed by law.
A person may opt to affirm in lieu of oath.
Lastly, Where any person taking an oath is physically incapable of taking the oath, he may touch or hold such copy otherwise, or if necessary, such copy may be held before him by the person administering the oath.
