President Bola Tinubu has commended Finland for the arrest of Simon Ekpa, a key figure in a faction of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), who has been linked to terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East.
Speaking at the State House on Friday during a ceremony to receive the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Sanna Selin’s Letter of Credence, Tinubu emphasized that his administration would not tolerate divisive actions.
Tinubu praised Finland’s swift intervention, which he said protected Nigeria’s integrity and prevented threats to the nation’s peaceful coexistence. Ekpa, who was arrested and charged with terrorism in Finland, has been accused of promoting destabilizing actions in Nigeria.
The President also acknowledged the Finnish government’s commitment to human rights and highlighted his own focus on stability and national unity. He added that Nigeria is committed to promoting development through reforms in sectors like ICT, agriculture, and education. The meeting also touched on the EU and Algeria’s contributions to Nigeria’s growth, with Tinubu expressing optimism for future cooperation.
