President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja today, Sunday, September 15, following his official visit to China and a brief stopover in the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made late Saturday night in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada. He noted that Tinubu had departed Abuja for Beijing on August 29, with a stop in Dubai before arriving in China on September 1.
During his visit to China, President Tinubu held talks with key Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, green economy, and mining. Tinubu described the visit as “very good and successful.”
Before leaving China, the Nigerian leader also met with members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) and the Nigerian community at the China World Hotel in Beijing. In his remarks, he reassured them that his administration is committed to delivering good governance and improving the country’s infrastructure. He acknowledged the current hardships in Nigeria, including the rise in fuel prices, as necessary sacrifices for long-term benefits like better roads, constant electricity, and improved schools.
After concluding his official engagements in China, Tinubu departed for the UK on Friday, September 6, with another brief stop in Dubai. His stay in London marked the final leg of his international trip before his anticipated arrival back in Abuja today.
The president’s visit also included Nigeria’s participation in the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), further solidifying ties between Nigeria and China.
Tinubu’s return is awaited as his administration continues to push through significant economic reforms aimed at revitalizing the nation’s economy.
