The Presidency has urged heads of government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to honour invitations from the National Assembly, stressing the importance of collaboration between the Executive and legislative arms of government. This call comes after the Senate threatened to issue arrest warrants for non-compliance.
Senator Basheer Lado, President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on Senate Matters, emphasized that cooperation is crucial for implementing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda is built on quick and efficient governance, bringing tangible democracy dividends to the people without delay,” he said.
Lado acknowledged that competing official engagements may sometimes make it challenging for agencies to respond promptly to Senate invitations. However, he stressed that prioritizing these opportunities for engagement demonstrates a commitment to accountability and good governance.
“Engaging with Senate committees is an important opportunity for agencies to showcase their dedication to public service and accountability, reinforcing the people’s confidence in government,” Lado added. His office will continue working towards constructive collaboration between MDAs and the National Assembly, particularly Senate committees, as a cornerstone of good governance and accountability.
