Nigerians faced significant power outages on Monday evening, but relief came early Tuesday as electricity was restored in several areas served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). The disruptions have raised concerns among residents in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and the political hub of Nigeria, especially in light of the multiple national power grid collapses that have occurred since President Bola Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.

Reports indicate that electricity was restored around 5:15 a.m. in several regions, including Deidei, Suleja, Lugbe, and Kuje, where residents had been without power for several hours. Customers within the AEDC franchise area were informed of the supply disruption, which the company attributed to the collapse of the national grid.

In a statement shared on its official Twitter account on Monday, AEDC disclosed that the system collapse occurred at approximately 6:58 p.m., leaving many households and businesses in darkness. “Be rest assured that we are working with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid stabilises,” the company assured its customers.
