In a bid to avert the ugly situation that ensued between officers of the Nigeria Police Force and those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Imo State, the Kogi State Commandant of NSCDC, Suleiman Mafara has warned officers under his command to be vigilant and ready to display a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties at all time.
Mafara, who gave the warning on Friday at a one day workshop for all armed personnel in the State Command emphasized that officers should embrace a high spirit of synergy with other sister agencies and devoid themselves of unnecessary rivalries.
The Commandant re-echoed that one security agency cannot do it all considering the population of Nigeria if compared with the numerical strength of security agencies established in the country.
Mafara, however, commended NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi for his acumen in handling the issue, saying: “two wrongs can not make a right. Therefore, we enjoin all officers and men of the corps to sue for peace at all times.”
He also called on officers under his command to broaden their operational scope and intelligence knowledge geared towards the protection of lives and properties in Kogi State.
DAILY POST recalls that there was a crisis between the NSCDC and the Police in Imo State, where an officer was allegedly arrested by NSCDC personnel for trying to stop the State Commandant’s convoy that was coming from where an illegal refinery was said to have exploded killing an unspecified number of people.
It was further learnt that the arrested police officer was detained, and when his colleagues got wind of the development they came for his release which the state Commandant of NSCDC turned down.
According to a media report from the state, this infuriated them, hence their return to mobilise for a showdown.
In view of the ugly scenario, Audi directed that all the state Commands must maintain a robust synergy with all sister agencies, adding that what happened in Imo was avoidable.
