Oyo State police command has released six suspects who were arrested in connection with the recent stampede in Ibadan.
The stampede occurred at a children’s carnival held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024.
Newsmen reports that the police in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso had last week said that eight suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
They included Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile Ife, the school principal, Fasasi Abdulahi, Olowola Oluwa Tosin, Genesisi Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim and Abiola Oluwatimileyin.
Newsmen however gathered that six of the suspects have been released by the police.
They were released from police custody at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Iyaganku Ibadan, Monday night.
Those released included: Olowola Oluwa Tosin, Genesisi Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim and Abiola Oluwatimileyin.
A source told Newsmen that the principal and other suspects have not been released.
The source said, “6 out of the people arrested have been released. The principal and others have not been released.
“We saw them when they released them”.
