The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has arrested four suspected kidnappers terrorising Eket and it’s environs at their hideout in Ikot Ubo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the police demolished the building where the suspects stayed and rescued one of their victims, Glory Samuel.

It was also gathered that the husband of the victim, Mr Samuel Ekerenam, had paid a sum of N3 million as a ransom, yet the kidnappers demanded for additional N17 million before his wife would be released.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Friday said, “Four suspected kidnappers were caught and one escaped, the woman was rescued unhurt and she was the only victim there as at the time of rescue.”

He explained that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday evening , Oct 30th during a gun battle with the police.

According to him, “Mrs Glory Samuel was kidnapped on the 17th of Oct, and kept in a very deplorable circumstance but thank God for the Nigeria Police, Akwa Ibom state Command.

”The IGP Special Tactical Squad was able to identify the kidnappers’ den where the victim was kept and they had a gun duel with the kidnappers and by the grace of God, some of them were taken down.

“Mrs Glory Samuel was rescued and she is receiving treatment in an unknown hospital in Eket.”

Odiko, who expressed the command’s readiness to sanitize the state of crime and criminality added, “Kidnapping does not pay, crime does not pay in any way. This is meant to show that whosoever is involved in things like must be caught up with the long arm of the law.”
