Following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to commands and formations to implement anti-crime strategies for ensuring safety and security during the festive period, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force across several states have successfully apprehended over 23 suspected kidnappers, hoodlums, and other criminal elements.
A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed, “Multiple groups of armed robbers, cultists, and hoodlums targeting fun seekers and engaging in gangsterism during Christmas celebrations were arrested.”
On December 25, 2024, at about 1 a.m., police operatives attached to Lagos State Command received a distress call about a group of hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons operating around the Safejo area of Amukoko, Lagos State.
The swift police response led to the arrest of three suspects: Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18). Weapons used in their robbery operations were also recovered. Intensified searches are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang.
In a related development, Police Operatives attached to the Saminaka Division of Kaduna State Command, on December 25, 2024, at about 8 p.m., apprehended Sule Muhammad (25), who has been actively involved in multiple kidnappings in the Saminaka area.
Further investigation led to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle. The suspect confessed to being a member of a notorious kidnapping gang and had been evading arrest since August 16, 2024, when other members of his gang were apprehended. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend remaining gang members and recover additional arms.
Commendable efforts by the Nigeria Police Force have also been recorded in states including Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, FCT, and Imo, leading to multiple arrests during the Christmas period.
The IGP commended the officers involved for their vigilance and commitment to public safety, emphasizing their dedication to safeguarding communities during the holiday season. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The IGP reassured citizens that the Force remains fully committed to creating a safe environment for all, ensuring that the festive spirit remains unmarred by criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Olatunji Disu, on December 26, 2024, conducted an operational assessment of key recreational centers across the Federal Capital Territory to ensure residents’ safety during the festive season.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson noted that areas assessed included Millennium Park, Jabi Park, Lugbe ShopRite, and Magic Land.
This initiative is part of the Command’s proactive measures to ensure residents’ safety during the festive season. During the visit, the CP evaluated strategic security deployments aimed at fostering a secure environment for holiday celebrations.
His presence underscored the Command’s commitment to boosting police visibility, enhancing public confidence, and reassuring residents of their safety.
