The parents of the 88 Zamfara State students studying in Cyprus have strongly opposed the idea of their children returning to the state without completing the final semester of their studies.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Parents Association, Amb Ibrahim Tudu, he said that the parents and guardians of the students are not in support of bringing the students home without allowing them to finish their remaining semester.

“They should be allowed to complete the remaining semester in order to finish their degree programs. Bringing them back home without completing this semester is unacceptable,” he added.

Tudu further stated that the parents have resolved to engage in more consultations, appeals, and public awareness efforts regarding the situation and the plight of their children.

“We are demanding action from both the Zamfara State government and Cyprus University,” he said.

According to Tudu, the Zamfara State government had earlier promised to take action on the issue, but nothing has been done so far.

“We are concerned that this delay is worsening their predicament. We want to make it categorically clear that we, the parents and guardians of the 88 Zamfara State students studying in Cyprus, are against the idea of returning the students without completing their degree program,” he emphasized.

The association once again appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal and his administration to reverse the decision to send the students back home and reconsider the earlier resolution for the sake of both the students and the state.

The statement urged the state government to settle any outstanding debts and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cyprus University to ensure the successful completion of the students’ studies.
