Over 67 communities in Ogun State have been plunged into darkness due to maintenance work at the Ota Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) substation in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
Residents of Abeokuta and surrounding areas have faced total blackouts in recent days, with power supply having already decreased drastically before the outage.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) informed customers via social media that the outage was a result of ongoing maintenance at the TCN 132kV/33kV substation in Ota. This affected communities including Ayetoro, Ilaro, Ofada, and numerous others in the Abeokuta area. IBEDC assured customers that they were closely monitoring the situation and apologized for the inconvenience.
The maintenance follows the recent commissioning of a new transformer at the Ota substation, which increased its capacity to provide more power to areas including Ota, Iju, Sango, and surrounding industrial zones. This upgrade is part of the broader TCN-World Bank initiative to improve electricity distribution across Nigeria.
