On Tuesday, a group of interns from the Obra leadership program had the opportunity to visit the Enugu State Multidoor Court and learn about its alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The interns were welcomed by Mrs. Caroline Etuk, the Director of the Center, who provided them with a comprehensive background on the establishment, different departments, and inner workings of the facility.

During the interactive session, Mrs. Etuk explained that the Enugu State Multidoor Court was established to address the absence of an effective alternative dispute resolution system in the South-East region. She emphasized that although the center is not the premier multidoor courthouse in the region, it is well on its way to becoming the best in the South-East due to its efficiency.
The interns actively participated in the session, asking questions and raising concerns about alternative dispute resolution processes. Mrs. Etuk shared her personal journey at the center since 2018 and highlighted the benefits of the work being done there. She encouraged the interns to keep an open mind about dispute resolution methods other than litigation and to debunk the notion that alternative dispute resolution (ADR) undermines lawyers’ revenue.

To conclude the visit, the interns were given an in-depth tour of the facility, providing them with a firsthand experience of the Enugu State Multidoor Court’s operations.

The visit proved to be an invaluable learning experience for the obra interns, exposing them to the practical applications of alternative dispute resolution and its growing importance in the legal landscape of Nigeria.
