The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has addressed the current fuel scarcity and long queues observed in certain areas of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement released on July 27, Olufemi Soneye, the chief corporate communications officer of NNPC Ltd., attributed the tightness in fuel supply and distribution to a hitch in the discharge operations of several vessels.
Soneye acknowledged the challenges faced by consumers in accessing fuel and assured the public that the company is working diligently with all stakeholders to resolve the situation promptly. He emphasized that NNPC Ltd. is committed to restoring normalcy in fuel supply and distribution operations.
The statement comes as a response to the growing concerns and inconvenience experienced by residents of Lagos and the FCT due to the scarcity of fuel at filling stations. The long queues and limited availability of fuel have caused disruptions to daily activities and have raised questions about the cause of the shortage.
NNPC Ltd.’s clarification sheds light on the technical issues affecting the discharge of fuel from vessels, which has consequently led to the tightness in supply and distribution. The company’s assurance of working round the clock to resolve the matter aims to alleviate the concerns of consumers and restore their confidence in the fuel supply chain.
