The Nigerian Postal Service has disclosed its plans to facilitate data capturing for Bank Verification Number as part of its reforms.

The Postmaster General, NIPOST, Adebisi Adegbuyi, said this would enable the service to become a communication meeting point where other value added services could be provided.

Adegbuyi spoke at the recently concluded Lagos International Trade Fair.

According to him, after the conclusion of registrations and training, NIPOST premises can be used for biometrics registration, data capturing, and final collection of licences.

He stated that the postal service was in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps for drivers to collect their licenses from NIPOST centres after registering with the FRSC.

He said BVN registration could also be done in NIPOST premises across the country.

Since NIPOST has the reach all over Nigeria, he said “We need to leverage that and turn the service to a massive employment and revenue generating agency.”

He reiterated NIPOST’s commitment to customers’ service satisfaction, reliability, speed, affordability and responsiveness.

Adegbuyi stated that effective regulation had been put in place to facilitate good business activities and make the environment much more conducive as postal order and stamps had become more convenient.

On the need to automate its services, the Post Master General said NIPOST had started the process, which was partially delayed due to Nigeria’s growing population.

On the plan for Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry to partner with NIPOST to drive the sustainable growth of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Adegbuyi suggested that a summit should be held, where small business owners would come together and share their challenges and opportunities.

He promised to help small businesses advertise their products on NIPOST’s platform by leveraging its membership with the universal postal union with presence in 192 countries.

Meanwhile, the LCCI President, Babatunde Ruwase, has commended the service for the introduction of a wide range of products and services, including e-commerce, logistics and micro finance, among others.
