Leading Litigator and Chairman of the Council of Legal Education (CLE), Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN has commended the Nigerian Law School Class of 1989 for launching an e-platform to aid teaching of law school students and young lawyers.
Ngige made the remarks as Chairman of the day as the class unveiled its ground-breaking e-Learning/e-Mentoring/e-Continuing Legal Education (CLE) portal to support quality training and retraining of Nigerian Law School students and lawyers, especially young lawyers. The event which was part of the activities to mark their 30th anniversary of the class was held at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.
Ngige described the Nigerian Law School Class of ‘89 as “great,” and urged other alumni sets of the school to emulate their vision, drive and commitment to improving legal education in Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the Class Chairman, Mr. Emeka Albert stated that the e-Learning/e-Mentoring/e-Continuing Legal Education (CLE) portal “is a first in Africa and will transform legal education and legal practice in Nigeria within a short period.”
Other activities by the class to commemorate the 30th anniversary included a health walk stretching 4 kilometres in Central Area, Abuja, where members distributed fliers urging Nigerians to “walk for health.”
Another highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the black-tie dinner and awards ceremony held at the NAF Event Centre, Kado, Abuja. The high-profile event attracted many of the class alumni from within and outside the country who were eager to reconnect with their colleagues after so many years. The dinner also witnessed the conferment of merit awards on some alumni including the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo whose husband was on hand to give a support; Minister of State for Education, Mr. Emeka Nwajiuba as well as Justice Obande Ogbuinya, JCA, Justice Biobele Georgewill, JCA and Justice Bilkisu Aliyu, JCA, all of the Court of Appeal.
Other honorees included several other High Court Judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria and Professors of Law, including Dr. Babatunde Ajibade SAN; Chief Jelili Owonikoko SAN; Lagos State Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN; Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor; Rivers State Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adongor and their Delta State counterpart, Mr. Peter Mrakpor.
