1. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has sought a reduction in the price of petrol across the country. The group urged the Dangote refinery to consider reducing its ex-depot price from N970 per litre since the estimated cost of landing petrol on Nigeria’s shores has dropped to N900.28 per litre.
2. A devastating fire engulfed a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday night, reportedly trapping several worshippers inside. The incident occurred at about 9:30 pm at Wisdom Estate, Road 1G, Olohunda Road, in the Lagelu Local Government Area, sources confirmed on Saturday.
3. A yet-to-be-identified man has set himself and his wife ablaze at the Ijoka area of Akure, Ondo State. The husband died in the inferno while his wife survived the incident. It was gathered on Saturday that the couple, who had been married for 10 years with two children, had been separated as a result of an undisclosed marital issue.
4. At least 20 persons have reportedly died following a boat that capsized in the River Benue on Saturday. It was gathered that their canoe tumbled as they were crossing from Ocholonya in Agatu LGA to Odenyi in Nasarawa Toto LGA of Nasarawa State after their activities at Ocholonya market.
5. The Police Command in Benue has confirmed the arrest of a native doctor, Veror Orduen, and an accomplice driver, Aondoaver Viaga, over the alleged theft of a company truck. The Commissioner of Police, CP, Steve Yabnet, made the disclosure in a statement made available on Saturday in Makurdi.
6. President Bola Tinubu has said he is aware of the harsh economic situation of the country, and he begged Nigerians to endure what he described as “unintentional hardship”. Also, President Tinubu noted that he does not take pleasure in inflicting pains on Nigerians. He assured that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
7. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has issued a strong warning to banks involved in the illegal circulation of newly minted naira notes. The apex bank stated that any financial institution found facilitating the illicit flow of mint naira notes will face a hefty fine of N150 million per branch.
8. Nze Fidelis Chukwu from Imo State has emerged as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. 9. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports on social media about the purported death of the commission’s chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi said in a statement that Prof Yakubu was hale and healthy and has not traveled to London in the past two years.
10. The authorities in Finland have frozen the assets of Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Biafran agitator facing allegations of terrorism-related activities. According to Yle, a local newspaper, the Finnish government also froze the assets of companies associated with Ekpa and four of his accomplices, who are also in remand.
