1. Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Thursday, December 12, sacked the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi. He also scrapped the office of the Chief of Staff, which until now was occupied by Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi. The governor said the former SSG was “dropped on health grounds.”

2. After 35 years of active service to the country, the military on Thursday, retired 656 senior non-commissioned officers, SNCOs, after subjecting them to a six-month demilitarization training. The retirees were disengaged from service at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, NAFRC, Oshodi, amid fanfare.

3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Tuesday next week, present the 2025 Appropriation Bill before a Joint Session of the National Assembly. Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Thursday.

4. The Federal Government says many states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, will comply with the new national minimum wage by January 2025. Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi stated this at the ministry’s headquarters, Abuja, when he received a delegation of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCN, on Thursday.

5. The FCT police command has paraded seven suspected ‘one chance’ robbers with 13 tinted vehicles recovered from them. CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who paraded the suspects on Thursday, said they were arrested through a robust intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted interventions.

6. The Chief of Defense Staff, CDS, General Christopher Musa, has revealed that a total of 129,417 Boko Haram terrorists and their family members surrendered to security forces between July 10 and December 9, 2024. The CDS made this revelation at the ongoing 18th Africa Security Watch Conference in Doha, Qatar, monitored by our correspondent on zoom.

7. Ahead of future elections in the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has recommended the use of computer-generated voting slips by those who do not have the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs. Speaking, on Thursday, in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said PVCs should no longer be the sole requirement for voting, especially with the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS.

8. The Naira on Thursday depreciated to N1,668 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,600 per dollar on Wednesday. However, the Naira appreciated to N1,534.6 per dollar in the official foreign exchange market.

9. The Senate has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike to stop further demolition of structures in the nation’s Capital Territory. According to the Senate, the FCT Minister can only pull down those structures ordered for demolition by a competent court of jurisdiction, pending investigation of its ad-hoc committee.

10. The Senate on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Peer Lubasch, for persistently refusing to appear before its Committee on Works. The resolution followed a motion moved by the Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, PDP, Enugu West, co-sponsored by Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong, APC, Cross River South, and Mpigi Barinada, PDP, Rivers South-East.
