The Bauchi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 415 drug suspects, seizing 1.2 tonnes of illicit substances in 2024.

Among the confiscated drugs were Cannabis Sativa, Diazepam, Exol-5, Pentazocine, Methamphetamine, Rohypnol, and Tramadol.

The seizures occurred between January and December 2024.
The State Commander of the Agency, CN Ali Aminu, made the disclosure during a press briefing on Tuesday in Bauchi, where he provided a comprehensive review of the Command’s activities throughout the year.

Speaking on the agency’s achievements, Commander Ali Aminu disclosed that 70 cases were charged to court, resulting in 84 successful prosecutions, while 18 cases remain pending at the Federal High Court in Bauchi.

He said 137 drug users were counseled and rehabilitated, adding that most of them were rehabilitated through brief interventions at the NDLEA’s facility in the state.

The Commander issued a stern warning to the public against the illicit use and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, saying that anyone caught would face prosecution.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his efforts in repositioning the agency and inspiring its personnel to renew their commitment to fighting the menace of drug abuse and trafficking,” he said.
