Our attention has been drawn to a concern raised by respected Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana SAN about the cost implications of the transition Implementation Committee constituted by the out-going and the in-coming NBA leadership, having in mind the need to cut waste and avoid unnecessary cost to the Bar.
We are grateful to the learned silk for the feedback.
We humbly wish to reassure the learned silk and members of the Bar who share similar concern that the NBA transition implementation committee is a pro bono service and members appointed therein serves at no cost to the NBA.
As stated in the constitution statement, members of the transition implementation committee may not physically meet but conduct all their meetings virtually from the comfort of their offices.
Members of the committee who accepted to serve the Bar selflessly and at no cost should be praised for their selfless service.
It is also important to note that the President Elect, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN served as the Chairman of NBA Transition Implementation Committee in August 2022 and the service was at no cost to the NBA. It will not be different this time.
On the analogy made by the learned silk between NBA transition and the recent transition of the Prime Minister of UK, it should be noted that UK practices Parliamentary system and therefore any comparison between the two leadership transitions is inapposite.
The incoming proactive Bar led by the President Elect, Mazi Afam osigwe, SAN will be deliberate about cutting waste and will always take the concerns of members seriously.
Thank you.
