The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) continues its proactive efforts, working tirelessly around the clock.

The NBA President, Afam Josiah Osigwe SAN, through his First Vice President, Sabastine Anyia Esq., alongside the Chairman of NBA Enugu Branch, past Chairman Mr. Anene Ojinta, and the Chairman of NBA Eziagu Branch, Mr. Christian Ezemagu, among other stakeholders, were swiftly called to assist in securing the release of their colleague, Okafor Vincent Esq., who was arrested in his Lagos office and flown to Enugu.

Last week, Vincent Okafor Esq. was arrested by police officers from the Enugu State Police Command on allegations made by the Igwe of his town. The allegations included:

Following these accusations, police officers traveled from Enugu to Lagos, arresting him in his office. Despite the best efforts of the Vice Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, Mrs. Esther Jimoh, and the NBA CLC Chairman, Hon. Egya Nuhu Esq., to secure his release on bail, their attempts were unsuccessful.

Okafor was transported from Lagos to Enugu, where he was immediately taken from the Enugu airport to a magistrate court and arraigned. He was subsequently remanded in prison custody.

Upon hearing of this situation, NBA President Afam Josiah Osigwe SAN quickly instructed the First Vice President to collaborate with the NBA Enugu Branch Chairman to ensure justice was served.

The Nigerian Bar Association team swiftly took action, and it is with great relief that they announced the granting of bail to Okafor at the High Court.

Although colleagues and friends of Okafor confirmed that he had not traveled outside Lagos during the month of August, when the alleged incident took place, the NBA refrains from discussing the case further as it is now before a competent court of law.

The NBA is glad that Okafor has regained his freedom and trusts that, with his legal expertise and the support of his legal team, justice will prevail. As they say,

The Bar remains committed to protecting the rights of Nigerians, especially their colleagues, from the abuse of power.

Signed:
Sabastine Anyia Esq.
First Vice President, Nigerian Bar Association
