The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has granted President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau OON, SAN, the authority to take action against former leaders of the NBA’s Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL), John Aikpkpo-Martins Esq and Funmi Adeogun Esq.
This decision was made during the NBA NEC’s pre-Annual General Conference meeting held yesterday at the Nigerian Law School Hall in Lagos.
Maikyau SAN informed the NEC that despite their removal from their roles as Chairman and Secretary of SPIDEL at the February 2024 NEC meeting, Aikpkpo-Martins and Adeogun have continued to falsely represent themselves as leaders of SPIDEL. The duo has been writing letters and issuing press releases under the guise of SPIDEL’s leadership, actions that have caused embarrassment to the Association.
Aikpkpo-Martins, the immediate past NBA 1st Vice President, and Adeogun have ignored the NEC’s earlier resolution, which saw them removed from their positions without objection from council members and continued to reprtesent themselves as Chairman and Secretary of NBA SPIDEL.
