The NBA Port Harcourt Branch Chairman, Mrs. Cordelia Eke has applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on its support for legal education and deepening legal knowledge within the Niger Delta region.
Delivering her goodwill message at the NDDC sponsored Annual Moot and Mock Court Trials Competition for Law students in the Niger Delta, the NBA Chairman noted that such initiatives are necessary in order to hone the skills of the aspiring young lawyers, who are the hope for a brighter future for the legal profession.
She commended the NDDC for its magnanimous gesture and pledged that the NBA Port Harcourt Branch will continue to identify with organisations that carry out such interventions in the region. She admonished the law students to cultivate the spirit of friendship at the Bar whether they win or lose their cases.
Mrs. Eke also stated that she looked forward to future collaborations between the NDDC and the NBA PH Branch towards the training, grooming and mentorship of young Lawyers and Law Students.
The Managing Director of the NDDC, Chief Samuel Ogbuku(Ph.D) in his response, thanked the NBA Chairman and charged the NBA to own such projects in future, by partnering with the NDDC for sustainability of the project. He stated that the event was the third in the series, noting that the last event was held in 2019 due to the lack of appointment of a board for the commission.
Over 14 higher institutions within the Niger Delta Region participated in the event. The NDDC also made a donation of one year’s subscription of the Nigerian Weekly Law Reports to each of the participating universities. The event, which held at the Chief Nabo Graham Douglas, SAN, campus of the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt, saw the attendance of dignitaries such as the Chairman, NDDC Board, Chiedu Ebie Esq, the 19th President of the NBA, Chief OCJ Okocha SAN, amongst other Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Prince Mini of the Rivers State High Court, the Director Legal Services, NDDC, Stephen Onome Ighomuaye Esq. (Ph.D) amongst other Executive Directors of the Commission.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt Campus, Prof. Chinonso
Mmuozoba and Prof. S.C Dike representing the Dean Faculty of Law, Rivers State University, amongst other dignitaries.
