The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Idemili Branch, Anambra State, has announced a two-day boycott of court appearances in response to the abduction of their esteemed member and branch secretary, C.J.S. Azoro, Esq. The boycott, scheduled for May 16 and 17, 2024, aims to pressure authorities to secure Azoro’s safe release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Azoro was kidnapped on Saturday evening in Abagana, Anambra State, while on his way home. The captors have since demanded a ransom for his release, and despite efforts by the legal community and authorities, he remains in the custody of his abductors.
In a strong stance against such criminal acts, the Idemili Branch has also resolved that its members will abstain from representing individuals charged with kidnapping or armed robbery until further notice. This decision reflects the branch’s commitment to justice and the safety of its members and the community.
Chukwubuikem Obianyo, the Publicity Secretary of NBA Idemili Branch, stated, “This decision is not taken lightly, but it reflects our unwavering commitment to justice and the safety of our members and the community at large. We call upon the relevant authorities to expedite efforts to secure the safe release of Mr. Azoro and to take decisive action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”
The NBA Idemili Branch urges the public to join them in condemning acts of violence and to stand in solidarity with the victim and his family during this challenging time. The branch’s resolute actions serve as a powerful message to criminals that such acts will not be tolerated and that the legal community will not rest until justice is served.
As the situation unfolds, the NBA Idemili Branch remains committed to working with law enforcement agencies and the government to ensure the safe return of their colleague and to maintain the integrity of the legal profession.
