On November 4, 2024, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Garki Branch, led by its newly elected executive team, paid a courtesy visit to the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.

This visit was intended to thank the President for his institutional support, which greatly contributed to the successful conduct of their recent bye-election held on October 29, 2024. This election filled multiple vacant positions in the Garki Branch Executive Committee.

Purpose of the Visit

During the visit, the newly elected branch executives extended their appreciation to the President for his invaluable support, which they credited as instrumental in ensuring a smooth and successful election process.

The newly elected executives, emphasised the importance of the President’s continued guidance as they transition into their roles, pledging their commitment to support his proactive administration.

“We are a new branch, and we need your guidance to ensure a successful transition and fulfil our objectives,” the Executives noted, reinforcing the branch’s dedication to aligning with the NBA President’s vision for effective leadership.

In response, NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, acknowledged the challenges branches may encounter in maintaining fair and effective leadership. He observed that conflicts in the bar often arise from “self-interest and ego” and commended the Garki Branch for adhering to due process.

He stressed the importance of fairness and the rule of law, urging the new executives to operate within the NBA Constitution.

The President expressed satisfaction with reports that the election was conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. He encouraged the branch to maintain comprehensive records, conduct meetings proactively, and stay prepared to face future challenges.

The NBA President underscored the importance of teamwork within the Executive Committee, emphasising that collective efforts and individual responsibilities are crucial to fulfilling the branch’s commitments.

  1. Vice Chairman – Lydia Izan
  2. Secretary – Chidi Ifeonye Alechenu
  3. Treasurer – Nkechi Nkiru Ezike
  4. Financial Secretary – Paschal Tochukwu Nnaji
  5. Social Secretary – Ejimofor Uchenna
  6. Provost – Chekwube Osita Udoka
  7. Assistant Secretary – Muhammed Mba Alsagafi
    The visit concluded with the President reminding the Garki Branch executives of the essential role of collective effort in successful administration.

The executives expressed their gratitude and committed to upholding the integrity and values of the NBA in their tenure.
