Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has announced that the state government will commence payment of the new national minimum wage of N70,500 starting this month, December 2024, despite the ongoing industrial action within the state.
The announcement was made during the commissioning of the newly remodeled office of the Deputy Governor in Lafia, the state capital.
Governor Sule restated his administration’s commitment to addressing the issue of consequential adjustments stemming from the new wage structure.
He pointed out that previous administrations had approved higher percentages despite the state’s limited resources compared to its peers in the region.
The governor assured the public that his government was keen on implementing a fair and sustainable adjustment while prioritizing the welfare of workers.
Sule also appealed to labour unions to call off their strike and return to work, urging them to continue negotiations with the state government to achieve a mutually beneficial resolution.
He reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering a harmonious relationship with organized labour to ensure industrial peace and progress in the state.
