The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a major warehouse in Sokoto State for distributing unregistered food products and violating regulatory standards.
The warehouse, identified as Dee-Lite IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd., was located on Coca-Cola Road, off Western Bypass, Sokoto.
According to a NAFDAC statement issued on Monday, officials discovered 5,347 bags of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and other unregistered food products on the premises.
NAFDAC stated that the MSG was imported under a permit for processing but was being sold directly as a finished product, which is illegal.
The agency also noted that the quantity of MSG found exceeded the approved amount, violating NAFDAC regulations.
“Unregistered items such as Orange Fruity (193 cartons) and Toffeeman Coconut Bites (71 cartons) were also seized,” the statement added.
Further investigations at the Sokoto Old Market revealed 235 additional bags of FUFENG Monosodium Glutamate stored in various shops.
NAFDAC immediately placed these items on hold, halting their sale.
A representative of Dee-Lite IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd. has been arrested and is currently under interrogation.
The agency promised to pursue strict regulatory sanctions against the company.
This latest action underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting Nigerians from harmful and unregulated food products.
In recent years, the agency has intensified its crackdown on illegal food production and distribution networks.
