Students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, on Sunday went on the rampage following the death of their colleague.
DAILY POST gathered that the student, Sunday morning discovered that one of their colleagues at the Department of Social Studies had been killed by yet-to-be identified persons at Imaweje, a neighbouring community accommodating a sizeable number of TASUED students.

The students said they had enough reasons to believe that the dead student was killed by the indigenes of Imaweje community.

They alleged that the community guards had been very unfriendly to students since a long time ago.

As a result, some of the aggrieved students resorted to self-help by burning the house of the Baale of Imaweje.

“About three other houses were also set ablaze,” a source told our correspondent.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Wole Banjo, has confirmed the clash between his students and the indigenes of Imaweje, linking it to cult-related activities.

In a phone conversation, Banjo told our correspondent that he had directed that all students return home to their parents until further notice.

This, he said, became necessary to restore peace in the affected community.

While saying normalcy is being restored, he added that the university and security agencies are on top of the situation.
