The NBA Nnewi Branch has constituted an Ad-hoc committee for the purpose of carrying dispassionate inquires and investigations into the JAMB vs. Mmessoma Saga.
According to the press statement signed by Kingsley Awuka Esq. and Onyekachi Ede Esq., the Chairman and Secretary of the Committee respectively, the committee had been constituted by the Chairman and leadership of Nigerian Bar Association Nnewi Branch on 4th July 2023, with a mandate of conducting dispassionate inquires/investigations into the raging controversy between the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Miss Mmesoma EJIKEME, a resident of Nnewi.
According to the release, the terms of reference of the Committee is to determine how Miss Mmesoma EJIKEME came about the JAMB score which she has and the possible cause of the controversy between her claimed result and the one JAMB has ascribed to her, among others and to make recommendations to the Association on the appropriate legal solutions to the situation.
Furthermore, the release noted that Committee swung into action immediately after it’s creation nd made some contacts. It noted that this immediate inquires made reveal that the Anambra State Government has constituted a high profile Committee made of up Professors and people of integrity to also conduct inquires and advise the government on the steps to take in the matter.
On this foregoing, the committee commended the efforts thus: “This Committee highly commends the unbiased step taken by the government of Anambra State. This committee is impressed by dispassionate stance taken by Anambra Government in her approach to this ugly and regrettable development. This is what a responsible government should do.”
The committee went on to note that it shall be approaching the Anambra State Government’s Committee and shall be appealing to it to follow up and observe its proceedings, would without any doubts want to explore possible areas of cooperation between the two with a view to reaching unimpeachable conclusion and resolution of the matter.
It also noted that it would subsequently approach and follow up on the involvement of the DSS in this matter.
In finality, the committee noted thus: “We appeal to various parties to eschew press and or social media war or words. Press trial is not known to our extant laws. The propriety or otherwise of the judgement already passed by JAMB against Mmesoma shall be adequate appraised in the light of the extant laws. Our ultimate goal shall be to ensure that justice is done to both JAMB and Mmesoma.”
