Daily Law Tips (Tip 503) by Onyekachi Umah, Esq., LLM. ACIArb(UK)
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF JUSTICES OF THE SUPREME COURT OF NIGERIA.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria is a creation of the constitution of Nigeria. It is the highest court in Nigeria. The constitution stated the maximum number of Justices of the Supreme Court, that Nigeria can have at any time.
The maximum number of Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria is twenty-one (21). Hence, it is illegal and unconstitutional for there to be more than 21 Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria at any time.
My authorities are sections 230(1), 230(2), 318 and 319 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
