The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, for allegedly engaging in an obscene act, involving a goat in a video that went viral on TikTok.
According to reports obtained by PUNCH Metro on Thursday, Yakubu was arrested on Tuesday after he was seen in the video instructing someone to film him as he allegedly licked the genitalia of a goat.
The clip, which has circulated widely on social media, particularly on TikTok, sparked outrage among viewers.
In the video, the suspect reportedly explained his motive, disclosing that he carried out the act to gain online popularity.
“I did it to trend on social media and become famous,” he said.
Outraged residents, disturbed by the disturbing footage, reportedly threatened to assault Yakubu before a local community leader intervened and reported the matter to the Hisbah Board.
However, during questioning by Hisbah officials in Kano, Yakubu denied licking the animal.
“I swear to Allah, I did not lick the goat’s genitals. I only put my mouth around the area,” he said.
He added, “I have never done this kind of thing before. I am in my right senses. This is my first time, and I won’t repeat it.”
Speaking to journalists, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminuddeen Abubakar, expressed dismay over the incident.
“Sadly, a Muslim man will use his mouth to lick the genitalia of a goat, without regard to religious teachings and moral values,” he said.
Sheikh Aminuddeen further criticised the suspect’s apparent ignorance of Islamic teachings.
“He’s only concerned about seeking dirty fame on social media. This is why we have ordered a psychiatric and drug evaluation on him to know his true state of mind,” he explained.
The Hisbah official also revealed that the goat would be taken for medical examination.
“Yes, we will take the goat to a veterinary clinic and test it for any disease it might have contracted from the suspect. And then we will test the suspect too before we prosecute him,” he added.
Sheikh Aminuddeen issued a stern warning to others who may attempt similar stunts for online clout.
He warned, “Anybody caught bathing in dirt or ash or charcoal under the guise of seeking popularity will be arrested and severely dealt with.”
